On December 3rd, members of CFDW were given a tour of the Governor’s Residence. As you can see in the pictures, our Governor’s home is beautiful! We had a great time roaming through the rooms and hearing the history of the home and how the recent renovations and decorations were done. No state money was used to pay for the renovations, it was all done through contributions and donations.

As we were leaving the residence, Governor Malloy arrived home, greeting us and recognizing many of his supporters.

At our October meeting held at State Central, we met with State Chair Nancy Dinardo and her staff member Moriah Moriaty to discuss State Central’s vision of developing a Women’s Caucus in CT. The concept is at the beginning stages and input is welcome by all. State Central would like to reach out to Democratic women and be a central place of political information for them. Other women who are helping with the Women’s Caucus would like to see this be a group to support getting women to run for office. The CFDW is already 400+ women strong and will work closely with State Central in partnering with the Women’s Caucus. Watch for further updates ~

As you can see, the tea was well attended. Many of the local East Hartford candidates for the upcoming election attended and spoke. Our CT DMV Commissioner Melody Curry spoke and helped to serve the tea, as a past president of the club. It was a lovely afternoon with fellow Democratic women!

The East Hartford Federation of Democratic Women will hold their annual Chrysanthemum Tea, on Sunday, September 25th, from 1PM to 5PM, at 111 Founders Plaza, (111 Pitkin St on the GPS) East Hartford.

It is one of their finest traditions, high tea with finger foods  and most of the ladies do go all out with their “specialties”.  Keeping with tradition tea (or coffee) is poured by some of the past presidents of the club.  Local candidates will be introducing themselves during the event.

There will be baskets for raffles, a tea-cup auction and plants to be raffled off. For more information or to RSVP, contact Bette Daraskevich at email: bdaraskevich@comcast.net

The SLDW kick off was a grand event! The venue was beautiful at the Gallery One art gallery in Old Saybrook. The guest speaker was Kim Hynes, from Common Cause, sharing about how campaign financing influences our election process. There were many new women in the audience who are dedicated Democratic women. Building our network of Democratic women is the theme of the SLDW and they are surely making that happen!
